  • This is the "bones" of an unfinished convent. We didn't actually pay to enter the rest of the convent but the outside is stunning - great photo op! We were able to go into the church itself, which is ...  more »
  • Cuilapan de Guerrero, less than 45 minutes from Oaxaca, is somewhere between impressive and disappointing. In the distance, is one of those huge Oaxacan ex-convents. Its huge open, with a semi-destroyed arcade Chapel, would remind the remains of La Antigua in Guatemala, but here there remains but a series of arches that estvo evidence and is no longer. Undoubtedly, the Majesty of the space. Then follows the entrance to the convent. It is not that the place within the exconventual space is disappointing, but that it is not as well preserved as a visitor experaria. It worse is that, in the second floor, what were them cells religious is have developed in them laboratories and workshops of them restorers and researchers, so one passes of long by doors closed fragrant to chemical, to which is sum a plague of wasps that invade a segment of the same second floor during hours unpredictable, which makes somewhat "dangerous" the visit (den my case) tingling WaSP took place around four o'clock in the afternoon). In the back of the ex-convent, a civil monument indicates the likely place where Vicente Guerrero was executed. The entrance to the convent, poor in exhibitions and some records of the work that is done there will be charged. Costs and dscuentos are the usual for Oaxaca elsewhere. There are no health services for visitors. All in all, worth the visit.

  • I like this pleace ..
  • Formerly called Sahayuco, that wants to say foot of cerro. It later adopted the name of Cuilapam Quayugol and Ampa-Valley. According to various etymologies Cuilapan has many meanings: "a place that is on the back" or "water back", other authors attribute the name to the following roots: Cuitla: "dirt" and bread: "on" like "trash or manure"; even place of cocoyoles (fruit characterized by its hardness). Currently in the region of the central valleys of Oaxaca. Leaving the city by Juarez Avenue turn right into peripheral. Road to Zaachila, passing by Xoxocotlan and in it "and" that goes to the right to Arrazola continue right. Imposing ex-convent that its construction began in 1555. 461 years in charge of the Dominican friars. Counts with a chapel open feature of the time currently in ruins. The ex-convent worth knowing it. The view from the part high is unmatched. Still is can appreciate a "tree" of the order initial of the friars Dominican, facing the room "of Profundis". Is keeps the cell where was prisoner Don Vicente Guerrero before being shot. And there is a monument in his honor in the part South of the former convent.
