Benito Juarez Market (Mercado de Benito Juarez), Oaxaca
(4.3/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
The oldest in Oaxaca, Benito Juarez Market (Mercado de Benito Juarez) has been operating since 1893. Experience a vibrant blend of sights and aromas as you wander the maze-like rows of stalls, which sell everything from fresh produce and local delicacies to souvenirs and handicrafts. Stock up on fresh meat, fish, and vegetables, browse the stalls selling aromatic herbs and spices, or order a fruit smoothie. The market is a good place to try iconic local street snacks, such as tamales, a string cheese called "quesillo," or chapulines, spicy fried grasshoppers. • It is a bit overwhelming but a fun adventure where you can find just about anything grown or made in the region.
  • It is a must-see. There are all colors and typical handicrafts. All local and affordable products.
