Basilica de la Soledad, Oaxaca

(4.7/5 based on 220 reviews on the web)
Witness grand 17th-century architecture at Basilica de la Soledad, located Oaxaca city's historic center, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Built between 1682 and 1690 from green cantera stone, the church is laid out in the shape of a Latin cross. Admire the church's baroque exterior, with its spires and towers intentionally sitting low to withstand earthquakes. The facade displays statues of religious icons, including the Virgin Mary. Inside, head to the west gallery and find an organ that dates back to 1686. Put Basilica de la Soledad and other Oaxaca attractions into our Oaxaca itinerary maker, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • you have to walk a bit to get but worth much, the well-preserved façade and worth contemplating it, the Church of course it is less majestic than the Cathedral and Santa Sunday but if it is worth for the whole offering the place, also outside of the Atrium offer typical snows of Oaxaca to the shade of the trees you can enjoy There are tables where you attend and bring you your snow of different fruit flavors, you can also listen to marimba music local trivadores to offer in Exchange for a tip.

  • Historic Oaxaca has much to tell us. The history of the colony has left buildings, language, food, music and stunning art as religious architecture. The Basilica of our Lady of solitude with its atrium that is walled on a slope near a former convent, is not only curious but it speaks of the demystification of many shrines and cloisters. It is plaza which is located opposite the basilica reveals its breathtaking beauty, but saddens us garbage and street vendors that we care about neither beauty nor the respect of public spaces. On the Basilica should take note of a splendid front that has the strength of the classic Neo but the roundness of the Baroque. Its columns and arches arranged in apsidal form seem to embrace the believer. The interior is joy. Its light is splendid. Their guardian angels make sure the Virgen de la Soledad is not so sad. It is a sanctuary that I want to visit again and let me love for beauty. Colonial jewel.

  • It is very well maintained and liked the lovers of sacred art. On the back it has a museum which has some interesting art works.
