Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman, Oaxaca

4.8
Visit Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman, a prime example of New Spanish Baroque architecture dating back to the 16th century. Built during a period of over 200 years, the church has had quite a turbulent history, having suffered from earthquakes throughout the centuries. On the facade, which is flanked by two bell towers, find a statue of Santo Domingo de Guzman, who founded the Dominican order. Inside, there you can appreciate the liberal use of gold all throughout, which creates a warm atmosphere when candles are lit during evening mass. • One of the best churches I have ever seen. A definite top ten in my book. You will be mesmerized. Go check it out.  more »
  • Interior painted with natural dyes. Check to see if a concert is scheduled - there is an extraordinary pipe organ. A peaceful setting with views that are spectacular.  more »
  • The building was declared a historical monument on March 30, 1933. Santo Domingo is an architectural complex that encompasses the actual Temple which currently continues to provide religious services to the Catholic community of the city of Oaxaca - and the annexed convent which is the seat of the Regional Museum of Oaxaca. Another part of the former convent now houses the Botanical Garden of Oaxaca, made up of native plant species in the State.

  • This is definitely a church. There's a lot of gold there's a lot of ornate things and there's a lot of Stone. If you happen to be in two churches this is the place for you. There is also the usual palpable sadness of what is largely the criminal conspiracy of the Catholic Church. They have Stomp tap on the local people and when you look around and you consider the construction of this place it is largely with labor that was not paid and essentially enslaved by falsity ology. Visiting churches can be a useful exercise. There is the usual swath of people begging and selling trinkets outside and the usual signs of soliciting for donations to the Pope's Recruitment and fund.
  • Real gold. Impressive work. Must visit. Most of the golden things you see here are actually made of gold (at least that's what they say), and it shines lime it's actual gold. The details are impressive too.
  • An old Catholic church made with a lot of slave work by Dominic monks. Pretty.
  • Spectacular architecture. On the property there is the cathedral, plus an anthropological museum and botanical garden. All surrounded by a large grand wall. The entrance to the cathedral and museum is near the southwest corner of the block. The entrance to the botanical garden is near the southeast corner of the block. This is a must see if you're in Oaxaca City.
  • This is a beautiful Catholic church. You can find "calendas" every other time, visit the museum or just sit and spend the time watching local festivities.
