  • His mysticism and the beauty of its landscape makes it a unique place! People preserves its traditions faithfully, so if you decide to visit it on day of the dead will be a grandiose experience :) The Pantheon is a few meters from this area. Ah! and don't leave without visiting the Museum within the site.

  • There are two cemeteries in Tzintzuntzan, both are decorated the graves with flowers and candles, families are accompanying tombs and band music. The atmosphere is of respect and sadness. Very nice experience.

  • Tzintzuntzan in Purépecha means "place of the hummingbirds", was one of the capitals most important purepechas during pre-Hispanic times. The archaeological zone, called Las Yácatas, in reference to its five typical rounded pyramidal buildings dating from the 13TH century erected on a terrace of stone blocks. The visit will serve to meet the origin and destination of the Purépecha and enjoy a great view of the Lake and of the present day town. Tzintzuntzan was one of the cities of the League tarascan and his best time was around 1200 A.d., when it was consolidated as a great center of Government, where he resided the calzontzin (King), whose name means for some "which never removed his Sandals", because all the nobles who paid the mexica Empire should remove the sandals in the presence of the Aztec ruler Thus except the tarascan King, showing their defiance and indomitable will. It controlled a large territorial expansion and had a complex social structure. The most striking is that Warrior peoples surrounding them as the feared mexicas, could not with them, until the arrival of the Spaniards the people fell to Nuño de Guzmán. In 1533, Vasco de Quiroga settled in these lands where he established the first head of the Diocese of Michoacán and I think the social and economic structure of the villages surrounding Lake Patzcuaro. With the arrival of the Spaniards, Tzinzuntzan became an urban center of about 25 or 30 thousand inhabitants scattered in a plain between the Lake and the two nearby mountains, all in an area occupied by about seven square kilometers. The city was the center of cultural, social and religious of the old village tarascan.
