Plaza Garibaldi, Mexico City
(2.4/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Discover the center of mariachi music at Plaza Garibaldi, a historic square closely linked with Mexican folk music. Stemming from the golden age of Mexican cinema from the 1930s to the 1950s, when scenes set in the square would show leading men singing mariachi songs to their love interests, mariachi bands fill the square with song. Watch the bands play and sing in traditional dress, along with jarochos playing folks songs from Veracruz, and norteno bands playing music from the north of the country. Though rejuvenated and revitalized in recent years, the square still has a seedy reputation, so watch out for scammers and thieves targeting tourists. Make Plaza Garibaldi part of your personalized Mexico City itinerary using our Mexico City itinerary planner.

  • After celebrating or dancing, passing by Plaza Garibaldi to listen live mariachi and take a few glasses of tequila or mezcal is the best activity. Highly recommended.

  • Situated in the heart of the historic area on the wrong side of the tracks! Rooms are located of the square and have paper thin walls so you are particularly partying with the locals every night! Ever...  more »
  • Only went to meet at 9.30 pm, area is a little dangerous, us when we got out of the taxi a Lord aboard ruffled the TEQUILA is the place on the corner that is in front at the entrance of the square, told us that we entered and knew the environment, which we were not paid cover, we take with my partner a beer each , when we ask the Bill they charged us a service and use of the table, but the most annoying is that they charged us VAT and when we ask Bill told us that no by not having a fiscal document, which is illegal. We avoid entering discussion because the environment feels heavy, we pay as they say know, not worth a go, in Colombia there are better sites of Mariachis.

  • There is a place here called La Tequilera. DO NOT ENTER! They have so called Mariachi shows, which are OK if you are looking for something to fall asleep to. But the real issue is when you ask for the bill. They will charge you double and triple of what the menu says, adding an insane service fee and even more so taxes (which is super unusual in mexico). Our two tequilas and a beer ended up being 570 pesos, nearly 30 Euros! When discussing, the big boss will just randomly change the price (with us it went down to 270 when we said we'll call the police). The waiter then stole 200 pesos out of my hand which I only noticed later. We ended up paying 470, so I went back and talked to the big boss, he pulled out a lot of bills (ALL of them with "new prices" written on them) and had 400 pesos in our bill, luckily giving us back 200. Still, HUGE RIP OFF! DO NOT GO THERE! Miserable place! Horrible People, huge scam.
  • Really fun and a great place to experience some authentic Mexican culture. Regarding safety, just take a taxi (I always take uber in Mexico city) right to and from the plaza and stay within it. You'll be completely safe, I've done that 3 times so far at late hours. Wouldn't recommend going out of the plaza as it really is an unpleasant neighbourhood. Get a place at one of the bars, order a drink and some tacos and enjoy the mariachi. Pay with cash.
  • awesome mexican place. Great music like mariachi and rancheras
  • DANGEROUS.....................NO STAR FOR THIS PLACE.... Do not enter this place... full of thieves. Don´t accept credit card. Don´t give factura. The phone number given by them is wrong. You will pay double of what is mentioned in menu.
  • Visita obligada para los turistas! Acudan al salón TENAMPA!!! Esta padrisimo!
