Plaza Garibaldi, Mexico City
(2.4/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Discover the center of mariachi music at Plaza Garibaldi, a historic square closely linked with Mexican folk music. Stemming from the golden age of Mexican cinema from the 1930s to the 1950s, when scenes set in the square would show leading men singing mariachi songs to their love interests, mariachi bands fill the square with song. Watch the bands play and sing in traditional dress, along with jarochos playing folks songs from Veracruz, and norteno bands playing music from the north of the country. Though rejuvenated and revitalized in recent years, the square still has a seedy reputation, so watch out for scammers and thieves targeting tourists. Make Plaza Garibaldi part of your personalized Mexico City itinerary using our Mexico City itinerary planner.

  • As I love Mexican music, I loved this little place for a drink or dinner while listening to the mariachis, there are quantities of them - charge per song 100 Mexicans but worth it!

  • The truth is that we find a place typical of ancient Mexico films with Miguel Aceves Mejias or Pedro Infante: BUT, surprise are groups of charros already with very old singing to people in Exchange for a few $$$ by song, that is traditional yet, LO MALO is the neglect of all over the place, facades of buildings in poor condition and of course without paint , the plaza itself firing of kiosks and low business people assemble, with some games for children with poor quality, dirt everywhere, very dscuidada in their dress, etc, etc. I THINK that authorities which should take care of the beauty of the city should TAKE to one great improvement, that knew it of old insurance must pay them any tear of nostalgia for how bad care of this history of this beautiful city place

  • There are people outside restaurant hounding you to come in and check shows out at no charge...so we decide to go into the "THE TEQUILERA" then you go in thinking ok 2 drinks and we can go...Nope when...  more »

  • There is a place here called La Tequilera. DO NOT ENTER! They have so called Mariachi shows, which are OK if you are looking for something to fall asleep to. But the real issue is when you ask for the bill. They will charge you double and triple of what the menu says, adding an insane service fee and even more so taxes (which is super unusual in mexico). Our two tequilas and a beer ended up being 570 pesos, nearly 30 Euros! When discussing, the big boss will just randomly change the price (with us it went down to 270 when we said we'll call the police). The waiter then stole 200 pesos out of my hand which I only noticed later. We ended up paying 470, so I went back and talked to the big boss, he pulled out a lot of bills (ALL of them with "new prices" written on them) and had 400 pesos in our bill, luckily giving us back 200. Still, HUGE RIP OFF! DO NOT GO THERE! Miserable place! Horrible People, huge scam.
  • Really fun and a great place to experience some authentic Mexican culture. Regarding safety, just take a taxi (I always take uber in Mexico city) right to and from the plaza and stay within it. You'll be completely safe, I've done that 3 times so far at late hours. Wouldn't recommend going out of the plaza as it really is an unpleasant neighbourhood. Get a place at one of the bars, order a drink and some tacos and enjoy the mariachi. Pay with cash.
  • awesome mexican place. Great music like mariachi and rancheras
  • DANGEROUS.....................NO STAR FOR THIS PLACE.... Do not enter this place... full of thieves. Don´t accept credit card. Don´t give factura. The phone number given by them is wrong. You will pay double of what is mentioned in menu.
  • Visita obligada para los turistas! Acudan al salón TENAMPA!!! Esta padrisimo!
