Museo Franz Mayer, Mexico City

4.6
An 18th century hospital today stands as Museo Franz Mayer, which presents one of the finest collections of decorative arts in Mexico. The art pieces mostly originate from the 16th through the 19th centuries and cover a variety of different art mediums such as ceramics, silverwork, furniture, sculpture, textiles, and paintings. The museum also hosts numerous exhibitions of design and photography. Marvel at the exquisite courtyard garden, featuring a large water fountain as the centrepiece. Take time to sip a coffee while reading a book in the house library, which is home to a large selection of antique and rare books. Good Museum in the Centre of the city of Mexico opposite the Alameda Central. It has permanent halls with ancient Mexican art and also very interesting temporary exhibitions. Entry $3. It has art shop at the door.

Today we had the opportunity to visit this small museum to see the exhibition IROHA which serves to commemorate the 120 anniversary of the Japanese migration to Mexico. This collection we really liked, mainly the armors and swords of samurai as well as kimonos from different eras. I recommend visiting it.

Where to stay in Mexico City

Head straight to the trendy neighborhoods of Roma or La Condesa if you're looking for an artsy atmosphere--you can find design-conscious hostels and boutique hotels nestled among the many bars, restaurants, cafes, and galleries. For easy access to the city's most beautiful architecture, you can't beat staying in the historical center, although the neighborhood's UNESCO-listing means you'll only find smaller, old-fashioned options there. You can also indulge in a few luxury nights in the fancy Polanco district, or look for a more budget-friendly option in the popular Zona Rosa.
