  • About 17 blocks (about 1.5km) from the Hyatt, is the old town, a flat walk, however, get a taxi if you prefer. Merida itself is only 2 stories high and I know why most hotels are blocks away! No one w...  more »

  • We went to dinner at a place located just there, to then enjoy the live music and people dancing to the beat of the music.

  • Lots of good food at the market, Calvary Centro Christian Church is across the street and the 10:00 service is in english. A great church to learn at.
  • Free WiFi. What could anyone ask for? People relaxing and lots of activity with food and children playing everywhere.
  • This one of my favourite places in the world. Tuesday evening 7.30 the big band plays all those old sweet Mexican dance tunes and the whole neighbourhood (those that can dance) come here to enjoy a free evening. Santiago is famous for its food stalls -- traditional Yucatecan meals at low prices: 10 pesos for a good taco. Lots of fruit juices and salads too. During the day Santiago Park is great to sit by the fountain and use the free WiFi, provided by the government of Merida. So much to enjoy here.
  • A very quaint park in the Barrio de Santiago, (Mérida, Yucatan). Centered around the Iglesia de Santiago Apóstal. Beautiful and relaxing with a small market for produce and comida.
  • Cute little park! It has lots of seating, live music and dancing on Tuesday nights, and plenty of food options in the vicinity of the park.

Where to stay in Merida

Yucatan's capital and cultural hub offers a range of accommodations concentrated almost entirely around its historical center, offering convenient access to the architectural marvels and museums that make the city a popular destination. Look in the streets surrounding Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan for some basic but perfectly located budget-friendly options. If the center feels too full of tourists, head north to the less frenetic neighborhood of Montes de Ame, where you can find some laidback private rentals.
