Museo Casa Montejo, Merida

(4.3/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Witness centuries of opulence at Museo Casa Montejo, a historical mansion in Merida's old town. Before its conversion to a museum in 2010, the 16th-century building was for generations a residence of the Montejo family, Spanish conquerors of the Yucatan Peninsula. Admire the well-preserved facade, ornately decorated with reliefs portraying conquistadors and members of the powerful family. Explore the interior, which houses period furniture and decorations in Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Rococo, and Victorian styles. Make Museo Casa Montejo part of your personalized Merida itinerary using our Merida holiday planner.

  • A cool spot in the otherwise oppressive heat. The grounds and building are well kept and clean. Very pretty and nice to see in the town  more »
  • MU interesting place, despite being small. It takes you 20 minutes travel, you can appreciate very antique furniture.

  • The main objective of my visit was the Bank that is inside, but then I saw that there was a Museum and going on family, we decided to enter. There are no words to describe the exquisite taste with which the House is decorated. Simply opulent occurs to me. It is a "House Museum", original property of Francisco de Montejo the younger, with a facade that is full of hidden symbolism. Next to the Museum, it is advisable to various galleries and exhibitions, which normally can be found there. 100% recommendable if you like photography, history and taste for antiques and interior design.
