  • A typical Mexican market with many halls, where there is everything what you can think up! The Mayan women offer already on the road, what grows in your garden. One enters. fresh fruit and vegetables, the many spices create an own smell, but there's also all kinds of spare parts, or in the fresh meat Hall - the smell, way in borders keeps surprising! Of household goods up to the roller there is anything even live animals! Just go through and pay attention in the crush on the purse. Credit cards are accepted at some stalls! You should give the vegetables woman cash! You can eat and drink here almost on every corner! Even with pushchair (stroller), the locals find their way.

  • It is very busy so finding parking is necessary if you are going by car, but there is heavy traffic, take it to get to a parking lot than in what they buy. It is cool that you find fayuca and traditional things. The food veery dirty area!

  • This market is huge and they sell every type of fruit and vegetable. It's very crowded and most of the vendors sell the same items as the others. Very competitive! There is also a huge meat market and...  more »

  • Enormous central market. Very local so not many English speakers. Crowded but safe. Locals come to buy the freshest fruit, vegetables and spices. There are multiple sections, cookware, produce, butchers and seafood with little street food stands (though I would take care regarding the hygiene with the cooking stalls but their fresh produce is awesome). The best part is the fresh vegetable section. Some of the wet market sections can be a bit intimidating though.
  • This combined with the adjacent Market San Benito creates the enormous central marketplace in Merida. You can easily spend an hour or two wandering through here. It's not "nice" and its definitely not touristy, but it is well worth the visit.
  • A great local market to visit and eat cochinita and some yucatecan food, not commercial and tourist place but if you want to feel like a yucatecan, you have to visit it. Also local fruits you can get there like yuca, tauch, grosellas, local mango, dragon fruit, etc.
  • Huge! Absolutely enormous. Can buy groceries, eat, get a haircut, key cut, shoe repair, buy clothes, buy a pet or kitchen utensils......and on n on.
  • There is a very good dining room called "Las Very Good" is the best place for eat and enjoy the best food since 7:00 until 20 hrs

Where to stay in Merida

Yucatan's capital and cultural hub offers a range of accommodations concentrated almost entirely around its historical center, offering convenient access to the architectural marvels and museums that make the city a popular destination. Look in the streets surrounding Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan for some basic but perfectly located budget-friendly options. If the center feels too full of tourists, head north to the less frenetic neighborhood of Montes de Ame, where you can find some laidback private rentals.
