Punta Cometa, Mazunte

#1 of 12 in Things to do in Mazunte
Venture to Punta Cometa, a high, rocky cape with expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. Standing at the southernmost point of Oaxaca, this spot is renowned for its sunset view, so expect to see other tourists during that time of day. Trails among grassy shrubs and cacti line the cliffs' edge; these eventually lead you to adjacent beaches. While here, be on the lookout for migrating whales and flocks of pelicans. • Once in Mazunte, after a long relaxing day on the beach, get up and do a small hike (30 mins more or less) in the green. Take with you all you need for a cool sunset. Drinks, snacks and of course don'...  more »

  • A beautiful (if crowded!) natural area with incredible views. We did this short hike an hour or so before sunset, taking the right fork (I think it was called the Fisherman's Trail) which was completely deserted until it connected with the beach. By the time we reached the actual point it was packed with people jostling for a good sunset viewing spot. Amazingly, dozens more were still streaming in. Having been spoiled to see so few people initially, we chose not to wait for sunset. If you don't love crowds, consider visiting this stunning natural area during the late afternoon rather than sunset - you'll still get that magic light and great views, but no claustrophobia! Footing was slightly unsteady in some areas, but we saw people of all ages (literally 1-101) and all footwear (even barefoot!) making the trip. That said, we were glad to have decent footwear on.
  • Beautiful place, with great views, guided tours, here you can enjoy a wide Beach, multiple activities and a great place to watch the sunset. You have access to restaurants and other tourist on the coast, and a large reception hours for tourists visiting the place, as well as special activities at dates specific year.

  • Incredible sunset... is a bit pemigroso to go with restless children. because the path is somewhat Rocky with several levels... but there is caution is a privileged landscape. There are no businesses there because it is a park to go to walk and meditate.

  • It is no longer what it was! Already are selling things up there! They leave their garbage! I do not doubt that while they will charge for upload to see the sunset or even will want to hire you with chairs to enjoy the sunset.
