Lookout Tourist Spot
Venture to Punta Cometa, a high, rocky cape with expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. Standing at the southernmost point of Oaxaca, this spot is renowned for its sunset view, so expect to see other tourists during that time of day. Trails among grassy shrubs and cacti line the cliffs' edge; these eventually lead you to adjacent beaches. While here, be on the lookout for migrating whales and flocks of pelicans. • I went to Punta Cometa just after noon -- not at sunrise/sunset like most reviewers recommend doing -- but it was a nice experience regardless. From Mazunte town, walk up the hill and take a left in t...  more »

  • Excelent place to sit and watch the sunset. There is also a natural jacuzzi where people can swim.
  • Beautiful view. Some locals played music at the sunset last time I went there. Pack some water and get decent shoes. A few annoying dogs were there too, running around, but nothing too serious. Bring a pareo to sit on
  • One of the coolest places and hikes in the area. Don't miss a sunset here.
  • One of the few places on a mainland where you can see the sun rise and set over the water from the same spot. Don't think it will be a romantic desolate spot though; there will be a crowd who will trudge up and down the dusty and steep path to get there, take a photo and leave.Hang around and they soon leave so you can chill out with the remainder.
  • Love it, great view and fresh salty air!
