Casting its light for 48 nautical km (30 mi), El Faro Lighthouse represents one of the highest operating lighthouses in the world. Situated at 157 m (515 ft), visitors commonly hike to the top of the hill to admire the view across the ocean and surrounding mainland landscapes. Grab a refreshment from the top of the summit after your walk. The lighthouse was built in 1879 on landmass that was once an island of its own. Once the bulb is switched on, witness its strength--equivalent to the light of 600,000 candles. El Faro Lighthouse Reviews
-
Although at this moment the road is under repair, it is worth the effort, the view is just incredible. As a suggestion bring water and a hat. more »

This hike is not for the meek. It takes about 1.5 hours to do and it's all uphill. The view is amazing on the top. I would definitely advise to do in the morning when it is cool. more »

To reach this Lighthouse is necessary to climb on foot, approximately 25 minutes of walking, although I had to climb while doing renovations the access to upload is worthwhile since you can see all Mazatlan from here and you can take good photos to rememberView original

Amazing view of Mazatlan and the islands, and the exercise while climbing up is not bad either. There are basically two ways of getting to the top: following the route, our using the shortcuts (which follow pretty much a straight line and require a bit of climbing). Expect to spend at least 2 hours there: 20-30 minutes to get to the top, 1 hour to rest and just enjoy the view, and another 15-20 minutes to come down. Bring water and maybe a snack, as you may expect, there are not people selling stuff midways.

It is quite a climb but worth it. At first I thought it was going to be easy but then it got steeper and the pathway changed to stairs. There must be at least 200 stairs. Someone told me that she did it at sunrise and it was spectacular.

You have not visited Mazatland unless you go to this light house, the path is twice ass easy because they are redoing the trail , will be very nice with lookout areas . That said , ,it will be more accessible to tourist groups so plan accordingly . The trail will be lighted at nt.

taxi and vehicle access can only take you to the bottom of the base and you walk the rest. there are a few switchbacks then about 320 steps to the top. WOW is the view amazing and so worth it!!

Great hike. Do it every morning for sunrise. If you see my 70 year old friend Joel in an orange shirt, say hello from Luke.
