El Faro Lighthouse, Mazatlan

4.5
#3 of 7 in Historic Sites in Mazatlan
Casting its light for 48 nautical km (30 mi), El Faro Lighthouse represents one of the highest operating lighthouses in the world. Situated at 157 m (515 ft), visitors commonly hike to the top of the hill to admire the view across the ocean and surrounding mainland landscapes. Grab a refreshment from the top of the summit after your walk. The lighthouse was built in 1879 on landmass that was once an island of its own. Once the bulb is switched on, witness its strength--equivalent to the light of 600,000 candles. It is in remodeling and do not allow the crosswalk. It is rumored that in a few months, it will be ready with better facilities and a zip-line. It will have to return.

If you like the exercise go prepared, are many stairs to climb, but at the end you have your reward! Bring water, insect repellent and lots of attitude! Before you get there is a sewage treatment plant, smells bad at times, that this does not disappoint you, up there are no odors! The Hill is filled with cats, people bring them food and water, their home so that respect them, they will do them nothing. If you get the sunset is best of all! By the time is closed, they are remodeling it, hopefully be better!

Excellent view of Mazatlan, was a good exercise but only lasts 20 minutes, it is not as high as you would expect nor is Mazatlan so you will have the best possibly view

A big climb. Worth it for the views. Keep your eyes out for the feral cats that live on the mountain.
