El Faro Lighthouse, Mazatlan
(4.4/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Casting its light for 48 nautical km (30 mi), El Faro Lighthouse represents one of the highest operating lighthouses in the world. Situated at 157 m (515 ft), visitors commonly hike to the top of the hill to admire the view across the ocean and surrounding mainland landscapes. Grab a refreshment from the top of the summit after your walk. The lighthouse was built in 1879 on landmass that was once an island of its own. Once the bulb is switched on, witness its strength--equivalent to the light of 600,000 candles. • The start of the climb up was only about a mile from my hotel in Old Town. I jogged over there and incorporated the ascent as part of my morning workout. The climb itself is about 7/10ths of a mile (1...  more »
