Izamal Ruins, Izamal

Ruin Tourist Spot
Contemplate Mayan architecture at Izamal Ruins. The archaeological site consists of five pre-Columbian structures, including two pyramids, two great temples, and a large building. Climb up the great pyramid, Kinich Kak Moo. Its base covers just under 1 ha (2 ac) and is dedicated to the Maya sun god. A climb to the top rewards you with panoramic views of pristine surroundings. Only the first third of the stairs have remained preserved, so bring tough shoes to traverse up the uneven rock to the top. • After climbing on few stairs you will see nice panorama of Izamal and one mayan ruin (it is possible to climb on it). The exposition to direct sunlight can be an issue (there's no place where you can ...  more »
  • Easy To Climb, I ran up from the street in 10 minutes.Nothing really spectacular, but if you have the time you might as well do it. Also its right next to the restaurant Kinich El Sabor de Izamal.  more »
  • The largest of the Mayan ruins within Izamal, the site is not manicured like some others in Yucatan. It is free, within a few minutes walk of the central cathedral, and a gorgeous view from the top. Y...  more »
