Create an itinerary including Playa Norte
The tropical paradise of Playa Norte occupies a scenic spot on an island once considered the sanctuary of Mayan goddess Ix Chel. Shaded by tall palm trees, the soft white sand provides enough space for playing sports or hosting a party, while the turquoise sea remains as calm as a lake. Snorkel or swim in the inviting shallow water, which teems with fish and other colorful marine creatures. Beach bars provide refreshments and rent out lounge chairs, umbrellas, and towels. Several larger eateries along the water will give you access to changing facilities with any purchase of food and drink. • Absolutely beautiful beach . The water is a brilliant turquoise and the sand is white . The water was warm and only waist to chest deep . It wasn’t wavy unless a boat went by . It was not crowded...

  • Playa Norte was a very beautiful beach with plenty of places to eat or drink. My son, his cousin and I rented a golf cart from one of a number places where they could be rented. We traveled to the southern tip of the island to see the Mayan ruins. There was small charge of $2.00 USD or 30 pesos. The scenery was outstanding. There were several different trails that could taken, some leading down to the water. Plenty of opportunities for some excellent photos. A very interesting and enjoyable trip!!
  • Most gorgeous beach we've ever visited -- crystal clear blue waters and an expansive beach -- plenty of room for everyone. You can walk 100 feet out and still stand up and see your feet. Just amazing. This picture is the view from the ferry on our way over to Playa Norte. Gorgeous.
  • Beautiful beach. Great place for pictures around the boats and docks. You can find some really nice sea shells there in the nets. Some big shells also. Just make sure you smell them an they are empty otherwise you'll regret the dead snail your carrying around in your bag. There's a few great restaurants on the beach there also. The one next to the restrooms is perfect. Open bar, ocean view/ocean front. Super good
  • A wonderful beach with water as pristine as you can imagine them, it will be hard to find a comfortable place to relax if you don’t come prepared with blankets and whatnot. It’s a decent walk from the nearby marina that hosts the many tour catamarans that stop on the island but you can make it if you’re walking at a brisk pace. Be prepared to pay for a table at one of the many beachside bars with a 2-3 drink minimum. Alas the drinks aren’t that expensive though so you could definitely do worse. Like every other place around here it’s a gratuity economy and literally everyone expects a tip of some sort so it’s always a good idea to carry cash. It’s definitely worthwhile to make the walk to the beach whether or not you’re just visiting the island for a short time.
  • Super amazing hole in the wall bar that you MUST explore!! This is the type of bar that you hear friends talk about but usually never get to experience. It's a must if you're on the island. The drinks are cheap and strong, and the food is filling and delicious. Now you know.
