JOYSXEE Floating Bottle Island, Isla Mujeres

(220+ reviews on the web)
Island Nature / Park
Admire the innovative use of plastic and organic waste at JOYSXEE Floating Bottle Island, created by owner Richard Sowa using more than 150,000 plastic bottles. The island floats on net bags filled with the upcycled bottles, and rests on shipping palettes. In addition to Sowa's house, the island features solar panels and a miniature garden filled with mangroves, palms, herbs, and vegetables. Admire the floating island from land or contact Sowa and take a short tour of his eccentric abode if the season is right. • We tried to find this place for two days. The locals kept telling us that he has been moving around lately. We found him just before going on the ferry back to Cancun , so we never got to tour him.  more »
  • We did find it but it wasn't easy, finally asked two different taxi drivers. There is no sign, we saw it by walking out on the dock next door. It looks run down like no one lives there anymore. Wouldn...  more »
