In dry season, by the absence of foliage in the trees, this forest allows you to appreciate a great diversity of birds. We also saw small rodents, lizards, and even a snake. Highly recommended to rent bikes in Huatulco and take the road to playa Cacaluta, but have to leave very early to avoid the worst heat, and bring plenty of water. Not to be missed.

Good for swimming but the most popular beaches are FULL of restaurants. It's not like parks in the US. Very nice to be able to buy drinks and food but you have to take a boat or a hike to get away from the crowds.

My wife and I enjoyed the beauty of the park and it's untouched beaches. We hired a boat for the day I Hualtulco (Santa Cruz) and toured the coast north to Santa Augustine while dolphins and turtles swam along side our boat. The turquoise blue water was gorgeous and clear to the world. Loved it!

This large park boasts a gorgeous, unspoilt coast of picturesque rocky cliffs and empty golden beaches, with incredible marine life to snorkel with. I experienced the park only from the coast, having hired a boat with a captain and skipper to take us to the best snorkeling spots. The boatride itself is highly recommended, spectacular. We saw many schools of fish jumping the surface as they feed in the nutrient rich waters. The trip was cut short, however, because of rough waters, so we had take a car taxi back because it wasn't safe for the boats to be out. So we did not step onto as many beaches or snorkel as many spots as were possible on the day trip, but, on the flip side, we did not die, so! That's the Pacific for you, a real force of nature. Despite this, highly recommended.

Where to stay in Huatulco

The planned resort region offers a large selection of accommodations at surprisingly budget-friendly prices. Stay near Marina Chahue for the best access to boat tours, Santa Cruz Huatulco for proximity to the nearby national park, or the main township of Crucecita to be surrounded by the most convenient amenities. For something a bit quieter and more focused on the beach, look slightly north to Tangolunda.
