Prismas Basalticos, Huasca de Ocampo

4.5
#1 of 43 in Things to do in Hidalgo
See an unusual geological formation at Prismas Basalticos, a set of tall basalt columns through which a stream of water runs. Located in a scenic ravine, the cluster of thin, matchstick-like columns owes its striking form to the slow cooling of volcanic lava. First championed by German explorer and intellectual Alexander von Humboldt, the natural attraction today benefits from the addition of stairs, walkways, and bridges, making it easy to get up close. The place is very nice and quiet, the cost to access makes me high $100.00 per person, it includes only the input, even if you want to enter the health you have to deposit coins so that the machine you paper, so if you take your toilet paper you save you the fee, we have breakfast there, honestly not I recommend it food does not have good seasoning is not economic, in place except the Prism there is nothing more to do, and there is a suspension bridge that allows you to have a better view and the part where this zip-line, how much is a tour that will take you two hours

It's awesome to be a formation of millions of years ago of lava solidified in the form of columns with 5 or 6 faces, up to 40 meters in height, where we also run some beautiful waterfalls. It is a place not to be missed if you are close to the area!

Great place to spend a Saturday or Sunday. Access to the area costs $100 pesos per person (August 2017), which gives right to the parking lot, bathrooms, gardens and the area of prisms. The place is well maintained and the nature is displayed in all its glory. Arrive early, to go down to the area of waterfalls and be able to take good pictures or feel the water fall through your body. The food in the restaurants inside the Park is regular; It is not expensive, but its flavor is nothing special.

I liked this place but the atv rental screwed tourists out of money. I would only recommend the 30 minute rental. Ours kept stalling and they would not refund us we used the atv for 25 minutes and we payed for one hour. We only wanted half our money back as we paid for one hand r and used roughly thirty minutas. The actual waterfall place inside is very fun! Especially the zip lines and decent food! Enjoy!

A unique place to visit, similar to Giant's Causeway in the north of Ireland. I enjoyed exploring it very much.
