Santuario de Cristo Rey, Guanajuato

Religious Site
Admire the artistry and poignancy of Santuario de Cristo Rey, a religious sculpture set in a scenic spot. Sitting atop a mountain, the 1944 statue of Jesus Christ replaced a smaller version destroyed by bombers during the anti-religious regime of President Plutarco Elias Calles. As such, it has come to symbolize religious freedom in the country, serving as a reminder of the secular/sectarian Cristero War of the 1920s. Displaying a striking art deco style, the monument attracts visitors with its aesthetic appeal, as well as its message. • It has a beautiful view of Silao, León, Guanajuato, old and new. The only downside was that there was not as much lighting and only saw the sanctuary and not the Christ the King, I would have loved take more photos at night. But this super cute.
