Admire an old and storied building at Regional Museum of Guanajuato Alhóndiga de Granaditas, a former grain storehouse now containing an art and history museum. Built between 1798 and 1808, the building displays an impressive neoclassical architectural style and bears traces of its main uses, as a warehouse, military barracks, and then prison. Turned into a fortress by Spanish troops and loyalists in 1810, when a group of rebels led by Miguel Hidalgo lay siege to the building, the doors were eventually set ablaze and the rebels killed everyone inside. When the rebellion was quashed, the four main insurgents, including Hidalgo, were executed and their heads were hung from the four corners of the fort. They stayed there until Mexico gained its independence 10 years later. Acting as a prison from 1864-1948, the building now contains several murals and exhibits dedicated to heroes of the independence movement, and a large collection of pre-Columbian art. • I've gone too many times to Guanajuato that I lost count, but this is the only occasion in which I presented the opportunity to enter the Museum because whenever I have gone is closed. Visited it yesterday by practices and this very well, its very beautiful rooms, divided by times... There is not much to say, excellent place. At the end of the tour you get to do an activity, in our case it was to make a seal... The only downside are their guides; they are not really NOTHING trained, the information you give is very poor and vague, the rooms of the Museum give to much, so well explained, but they don't know how to do it. A child in kindergarten would do it better. That disappointed me very much... Give them courses on the history of each room and it will be without doubt one of the best museums of Guanajuato...
