Monumento al Pipila, Guanajuato
(4.5/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Pay homage to a local hero at Monumento al Pipila, a statue honoring a young miner who distinguished himself during the Mexican War of Independence. The statue overlooks the city from one of the best vantage points you can find, so be sure to bring along a camera. The walk up to the monument may be too challenging for families with young kids and the elderly, who can take a taxi as an alternative. Near the monument, you'll find a gift shop and a bar with an equally spectacular view. • Best place to admire the landscape of Guanajuato. The colour of the city impressed me enough. It is too cold in the morning but it is worthwhile.

  • We ain't as young as we used to be, so we rode the funicular up the hill, cost 25 pesos each. The statue is apparently formed of pink sandstone which has been shaped to an imposing form of a brave rev...  more »
  • I took the funicular to this site for just over $1, then enjoyed the walk down. The views are great, and there's a reasonably priced cafe with even better views! For $.50 you can enter a small museum ...  more »

  • Easy, quick hike from Jardin de la Union. The statue has historic significance- an independence hero, but the must-see is the spectacular view! Guanajuato is marvelous from up there. If you don't feel like walking up, there is a funicular "train" that you can take for 50 pesos. To get to the station for this, walk a bit down the street on the side of Teatro Juarez, past the jewelry vendors. There will also be lots of vendors at the top if you are looking for cheap souvenirs.
  • You got to visit this statue if you visit Guanajuato. The statue itself is fairly impressive but the real reason to come up is the views of the city. As photos hopefully demonstrate they are fantastic. It gives you great view of how the city is played out and just how colourful Guanajuato is. Check it out!
  • If you want to view the city and appreciate its historical buildings and churches, this is definitely the place to go. It offers a panoramic view of the whole city. It's a great place to take photos!
  • Buena vista, bonito monumento.
  • Incredible views over the city and by the way nice workout:)
