The vibrant array of produce at Hidalgo Market (Mercado Hidalgo) will have you filling your bag with authentic Mexican food and gifts. Located within a vast iron structure originally intended to operate as a rail station, the market opened in 1910, coinciding with Mexico’s centennial celebration of independence. This milestone helped coin the market’s name after Miguel Hidalgo, a leader in the independence movement. Shopping with the locals across the three levels of the market, you will find many food vendors offering meals at very reasonable prices, or you can buy some produce to take with you. You'll find handcrafted gifts at many stalls, and as is the norm in Mexican markets, haggling is expected. • For who is staying in a house or somewhat longer time, there is nothing better than buying ingredients of top quality in a Mexican market. This is simply impeccable as all good products, friendly people, local to admire culture and proper craftsmanship. You can buy papaya, mango and avocados for 4 people for less than $2. Oaxaca cheese! Exquisite and very cheap. Some tacos of carnitas (the foreigners not you added sauces by security) and a juice are a panorama missed.

  • Awesome market full fruits and veggies, also a great place to buy local arts and crafts.
  • buen mercado
  • Excellent and very varied market. In one corner, there are guys chopping huge chunks of meat, while in the middle you can get some good and cheap milkshakes. Clothing and other items are on the balcony that surrounds the ground floor.
  • This ticks all the boxes for Mexican markets leaning slightly towards the touristy side. It has food, stalls and everything you could like. Worth checking out.
  • Interesting vibrant market with all kinds of stuff. Seems to target both locals and tourists.
