Monumento al Pipila, Guanajuato

4.4
Pay homage to a local hero at Monumento al Pipila, a statue honoring a young miner who distinguished himself during the Mexican War of Independence. The statue overlooks the city from one of the best vantage points you can find, so be sure to bring along a camera. The walk up to the monument may be too challenging for families with young kids and the elderly, who can take a taxi as an alternative. Near the monument, you'll find a gift shop and a bar with an equally spectacular view. • Monument is impressive. Very busy with tour buses and vendors. It all works out. Funicular was operating . We took a guided taxi tour of the area and this was a good spot to review all that we learned...  more »

  • Place with spectacular views, you can get through the streets (very tired, need to have status) go up the cable car (has another name that I can't remember) or in car, the latter not recommend because it is a 1-hour traffic to get

  • Amazing view of the city. You can take the car up the mountain for 50 pesos or you can find a route to walk up. I suggest the walk up cause it's really not that far up. Go for sunset, wait for all the lights to turn on around the city, spectacular. A must, the actual sculpture is impressive.
  • Amazing spectacle at the end of a heart-stopping urban hike from the city center. The statue is awesome, and the view is one of the best in the world. Walk, drive, come be off sled team, just get to this place as fast as you can.
  • This is a very important historic place where the Mexican Independence took place. Also the view of Guanajuato city that you can get here is good enough to take some good shots. RECOMMENDED!!!
  • If you come to this Town this place is a must. Either you sit on a bench and enjoy the view or eat one of many street foods.
  • Beautiful view. Must visit place for panoramic pictures. Don't waste time going up to the Crystal cube, it's usually crowded and the view is better from the deck.

Where to stay in Guanajuato

Among the narrow streets and colorful buildings of the World Heritage-listed city center, you'll find a selection of tasteful boutique hotels. The streets around Jardin de la Union and Universidad de Guanajuato offer some of best the best choices and proximity to historical attractions. There's plenty on offer for budget travelers, too, with a range of hostels and small guesthouses at very reasonable prices. You can find some even more affordable options south of the center, around Cerro de los Leones.
