Palacio de Cortes, Cuernavaca

4.4
#2 of 7 in Museums in Cuernavaca
As the oldest colonial-era civil structure in the Americas, Palacio de Cortes showcases the history of the region and colonial Mexico. Built in 1526 as a residence for the conquistador Hernan Cortez, the building originally had the double purpose of exerting authority over the conquered natives. Later the structure became a barracks and jail, housing prisoners of war during the war for independence. Currently the building serves as a museum showing the history and artifacts from colonial times and earlier. You can view artifacts from other Spanish colonies and the oldest clock in America; most of the information is only available in Spanish. • The building of the grim, but certainly in the years when she was raised on the ruins of a building of the local Indians had the importance of practical than aesthetic.

  • You can also find many works of Mexican art, as well as Spanish objects used in the conquest, only thing I caused laughter is they charge 40 extra weights to the ticket if you want to take pictures, became me a little bad taste, anyway.

  • Could not visit him now that is closed for safety of tourists, due to that Quake damage it severely, as well as to the dome of the Cathedral and several churches, poor Cuernavaca, of if does not have many places to visit and with this Quake you gave in the tower to What little there is.

  • You should now Spanish very well to understand what you see
  • Museum was closed for repair but outside was teeming with flowers, vendors, and food.
  • I love my own culture...♡♡♡
  • Me and my sister would go every summer. I love it here. We both need to return one day.
  • Worth the visit. If I remember correctly, this was Hernan Cortes' vacation home. The museum is very interesting too.
