Columbia Reef, Cozumel

4.8
#3 of 42 in Parks in Cozumel
Explore the rich marine life of Columbia Reef, a shallow dive spot just off this popular tropical Caribbean island. Less popular than its counterpart, Palancar Reef, the shallows here are a more laid-back and undisturbed place to explore. Snorkelling or scuba diving along the interesting coral formations, you can spot barracuda, grunts, snappers, sea turtles, and sometimes even octopuses. The diving spot is suitable for children and beginners, as it has gentle currents. Put Columbia Reef at the forefront of your travel plans using our Cozumel trip itinerary planning app .

  • While there was "less" swimming life readily available to see on this dive the coral was spectacular. Swimming in and out and through the coral was an experience I will not forget. How often do you ge...  more »
  • Snorkeled this reef after palancar. Columbia reef is much more shallow than palancar with lots of fish. The fish are not shy at all and swim right by you even to the point where you can touch them. I ...  more »
  • We hire in the marina where arriving ferries of PlayaCar, since we got on the boat called "Savana" we feel intimidated by the guide which are known as "Pajarito" us demanded that guardaramos our cell at the top of the boat, all We had the cell phone in hand to take pictures... Now with cell phones saved us was offered a package of photos, Basle. We know speak English therefore we realized account that gave them cheaper then the photos to foreign service that Mexicans, so didn't want to hire him, the entire trip we harassed so we bought it, we do not accept and then the bird He began to talk about ugly. We were two men and a woman. I am the woman and didn't want to get off because you do not swim and he told me that I helped and I accepted, I saw very beautiful things and I am grateful for that, my annoyance is because there are no Mexicans and foreigners equal treatment, he wanted us to give tip force , (I gave him because to my helped me a lot) but others don't, wasn't obligation and more if the entire trip made us feel vulnerable. On the ride had a few Brazilians and they gave him a few coins which I return them because the tickets I wanted, was very rude and advantageous. I gave him for helping me but really nobody more she was because give him money, had already paid our trip! All foreigners had scared face because not understand passing asked us the tip away from the dock and stopped the boat, to ask the tip, until I told him that us closer to spring to lower us, did so to force us to give tip. It was a bad experience with the man, terrified us and by people as the, is that foreigners think that Mexicans are cheats, that penalty with them because they left wave sacadisimos but also expected you clear you to, to foreigners normally do not give tip, that does not exist in their countries and they crave to serve them and we Mexicans gave to the more expensive everything and the treatment was very different to them, if we have contemplated leaving them and more for the help I received. The ride is beautiful, was breaded by such people. I leave you with photos of the boat and some of the reefs. I highly recommend the walk, but look how well with who do so.
