  • Cha"an Ka"an (CK) Planetario is a hidden gem on the island of Cozumel. It's located just a few blocks east from the main cruise ship port. We made a impromptu stop and received an incredible one on on...  more »

  • Only two years old. Very modern with dome, observatory, auditorium, and gardens outside. The nicest planaterium in Latin America. Also has the museum explaining Maya civilization. Observatory hours are Thursday. Friday, Saturday nights. Shows in the dome are popular, with occasional concerts.
  • Underrated place that's easily accessible from a tourist port. 5 minute walk away it also teaches about the Mayan culture. Worth visiting.
  • This is a really interesting place. The building is beautiful and I love the open design and layout and the landscaping is beautiful and informative, with plaques describing the plants, the latin names, and folk medicine uses. The exhibits are minimalist but informative, and the interactive exhibits are very interesting and fun. I appreciated the English translations on everything. The planetarium is a quick and easy walk from the cruise port, if you are in Cozumel as a cruise passenger and looking for something economical, educational and fun to do that is not overrun with other cruise ship folks. We saw a 3D movie about the coral reefs in the theatre; it was really wonderful. My only disappointment was that there was not a gift shop; I would have liked to bring a souvenir to my niece.
  • A great place to spend a relaxing afternoon. The staff were happy and enthusastic, and I learned a lot!
  • Learn about our universe..entertaining, Interesting and informative.

Where to stay in Cozumel

Most accommodations in Cozumel line the island's western shoreline, offering excellent beach access and the airport. Avenida Rafael E. Melgar provides the widest range of hotels and private rentals, with some of the more spacious and relaxed options sitting around 10 km (6.2 mi) south of the town center. Budget-conscious travelers should look to the main township, where a selection of smaller guesthouses and pensions can be found just a few streets back from the beach.
