Canon del Sumidero, Chiapas

Canyon Nature / Park
Marvel at Canon del Sumidero, an impressive geological feature and national park. The canyon began to form around 70 million years ago due to tectonic activity in what was then an underground area. Only a river flows through the canyon now, providing a habitat for families of crocodiles and an attractive counterpoint to the steep rock walls of the canyon. Take a boat trip down the river to admire the ancient landscape, or stick to the land and take a hike along the top of the canyon, which offers numerous lookout points. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Tuxtla Gutierrez holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Canon del Sumidero and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Llegamops to Cgiapa of roe deer, there just guides are available to make things easier for you, we parked near the pier, we get the boat ticket and in 10 minutes we were already embarking. Incredible views when you get to the shocking, narrow gorge. We dudabamos go by criticisms about cleaning, to our surprise, we saw that are not as dirty as mentioned by many critics. It is more little trash, the logic of being a river that drains rcibe. There is a cleaning program. To turn the Guide awaited us to join us to make the journey through the viewpoints, but esstabamos with no going to be easy, since there are return to the motorway and head towards Tuxtla Gutierrez, not losing that view from the top is magnificent. See the entire route of the river and city.

  • Of the saddest thing that looked at my eyes in Chiapas. A beautiful place, with meters and meters of garbage along the river. My thinking was in 4 "bodies" responsible for this terrible situation. 1. the Government of the State that has not performed actions in the municipalities which has identified that there is spread of waste, which goes to the Grijalba. On the other hand, when we were there it seemed that he had spent time since I had cleaned for the last time, then, the gob. Edo. He is not doing everyday actions of cleaning to a place so visited by tourists. 2. tourists are jointly responsible for the mess, because also are super neglected and dirty. 3. If the gob. Edo. clean regularly, the boatmen, who live off tourism should not perform cleaning days. However, they sell and they sold trinkets that generate garbage, without assuming responsibilities shared at the time to clean (there is an aquatic Oxxo!). 4 people, like you and I that we don't think about the consequences of all the rubbish we throw away, only consume and throw our garbage without thinking about where they go to stop this waste. What kind of garbage is the most abundant? plastic bottles. Input, we would do you a good to the planet if we stopped eating so much PET.

  • The tour of this wonderful place is highly recommended and quite accessible. The guide explains quite well and they are committed to that you can well appreciate every detail. The garbage detail is quite sad but that does not detract from the wonderful. Just don't forget to use sunscreen, wear glasses or hats to cover you from the Sun.
