Canyon
Marvel at Canon del Sumidero, an impressive geological feature and national park. The canyon began to form around 70 million years ago due to tectonic activity in what was then an underground area. Only a river flows through the canyon now, providing a habitat for families of crocodiles and an attractive counterpoint to the steep rock walls of the canyon. Take a boat trip down the river to admire the ancient landscape, or stick to the land and take a hike along the top of the canyon, which offers numerous lookout points. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Tuxtla Gutierrez holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Canon del Sumidero and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Perform a tour from San Cristóbal de Las Casas, joining a group, leaving at 9:00 am, one hour approximately, arriving all well organized where lifeguards give you the vest and start travel by boat between the Grijalva River. The guide in Spanish perfectly explain each point of interest by stopping the boat a little. Something incredible is to appreciate the animals in their natural habitat, we were able to see several birds (vultures or scavengers, beautiful and white herons, ducks) 2 crocodiles and several spider monkeys. I love the site and the way in which tourism is organised in Chiapas for the tour that is definitely worth doing.

  • A very nice experience. We left in the morning, what I would recommend, and could see a landscape, which is hardly comparable. Only drawback is the dirt that accumulates in the river...
