Canon del Sumidero, Chiapas
(4.4/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Marvel at Canon del Sumidero, an impressive geological feature and national park. The canyon began to form around 70 million years ago due to tectonic activity in what was then an underground area. Only a river flows through the canyon now, providing a habitat for families of crocodiles and an attractive counterpoint to the steep rock walls of the canyon. Take a boat trip down the river to admire the ancient landscape, or stick to the land and take a hike along the top of the canyon, which offers numerous lookout points. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Tuxtla Gutierrez holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Canon del Sumidero and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Spectacle of nature that with the "help" of man to impound the waters of the Grijalva River, offers a unique ride. Was raised to the category of Park in 1980 and can enjoy the river banks the wealth of its fauna and flora. The huge paradões make it a unique place. Worth knowing
