Canon del Sumidero, Chiapas

(4.4/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Marvel at Canon del Sumidero, an impressive geological feature and national park. The canyon began to form around 70 million years ago due to tectonic activity in what was then an underground area. Only a river flows through the canyon now, providing a habitat for families of crocodiles and an attractive counterpoint to the steep rock walls of the canyon. Take a boat trip down the river to admire the ancient landscape, or stick to the land and take a hike along the top of the canyon, which offers numerous lookout points. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Tuxtla Gutierrez holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Canon del Sumidero and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We went to Tuxtla intending to make the boat trip through the Canyon and also visit their viewpoints. We couldn't do the boat trip because the river level was very low and there was prohibition of navigation, I recommend you to investigate before going to make not what happens to us, for those who go by car and want to let insurance there are several options, within the embarcadero Cahuaré, there is secure parking; for those who leave from Chiapas de Corzo, there are options of secure parking in some homes that you are near the area of the jetty. We did ride to the viewpoints, it is beautiful! 5 viewpoints are, via get and upload is in very good condition, the cost to access it is 32 pesos per person, worth climb by car because the viewpoints are quite estranged, the view is beautiful, we went at 4 in the afternoon, good time to enjoy the ride without bother the Sun and heat , when we went the breeze was cold at that time, it is worthwhile to start from the highest vantage point, you should go with shoes, comfortable clothing and fresh. The ride takes them 3 hours approximately; It is a ride that should not do if they go to Tuxtla

  • Wow, the sumidero Canyon is just something that will leave you stunned the day paddling between their stone walls, a place of beauty, lush vegetation and fauna. To take this tour must go to Chiapa de Corzo, there are piers that lead you to take a tour on the waters of the Grijalva River, to hire the tour give you a bracelet that includes the raft, life and guide, which makes it even more for the enjoyment of tourists. The people are warm and friendly and the guide explains everything you need and the coriosidades of the rock formations, already in waters of the river you'll see the wonders of the rock formations with walls up to height 1000mt, be down watching this beauty makes you see how insignificant we are in size, you'll find crane in its natural habitat , pelicans, alligators, something wonderful is a waterfall that is beautiful on one of the walls of the Canyon and caves, this includes the magnificence of the sumidero Canyon. It should be noted that you there is a program of clean which you yourself can see collecting trunk, and garbage that humans unfortunately continues to pull in prohibited places. To visit this wonder takes a hat or Cap minimum sunglasses and use sunscreen Sun, and of course insect repellent, really worth worth visiting it.
