Museo Maya de Cancun, Cancun

4.4
Wander around the modern Museo Maya de Cancun to absorb artifacts and displays relating to the Mayan culture. The museum makes a great place to begin if you’re planning to take excursions to some of the larger, better-known sites in the region. You’ll gain a broad overview of the Maya people, as well as the opportunity to purchase relevant books on the Maya and their culture. After examining the exhibits, be sure to visit the small but impressive ruins located in the gardens. • The museum is beautiful! They have elevators, free lockers, air conditioning, and a great array of artifacts! The most delightful surprise is the jungle behind the building with ruins and pyramid! It ...  more »
  • Saw the ruins with my wife and then toured the museum. We learned a great deal about the Mayan culture and life. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Rating: 8/10.  more »
  • The Museum entrance is a white square that in the light of the Sun is to blind anyone. Passed this place admission costs 70 pesos! Teachers and students are free, also older adults. well by the INAH! The lockers to leave your stuff is free only need a 5 Peso coin which you recover to remove your things. They are little rooms and temporary exhibitions. It is a museum that is well prepared and with clear cards. There are even some for children. The best is that by the same ticket they can access the archaeological zone. Finally do not forget to visit the Museum shop... the bad thing is that there is lots of variety in regards to the Mayan culture... will find tidbits of Frida Kalho, Teotihuacan, Mexico travel guides but that Yes; It will be the only place where the products are not Chinese! Sad reality

  • Wonderful museum! Small but filled with a lot of very fine and important pieces from settlements throughout the Mayan world. Please note your admission fee also includes the archaeological site of San Miguelito! Small yet important settlement built in 1250 ACE. Bring some mosquito repellent if you go: the settlement is in a small patch of jungle and you will be eaten alive if you don't! Highly recommended!!
  • Great cultural museum. Cost 70 pesos per person and they want us to put our backpack in their free lockers. The archaeological site is shaded and very interesting and there are Mayan artifacts upstairs in the exhibit.
  • Great modern but small museum. Nice artifacts from different arqueological sites from the area. And with your paid admission into the museum you also get admission into the San Miguelito arquological site. A hidden gem in the heart of the booming hotel zone.
  • The museum pieces are pretty interesting, but most of the information is in Spanish, making it difficult to immerse yourself if you don't know the language. It's a very beautiful museum, and there are some ruins hidden in the garden: don't forget to check them out! You'll also see plenty of iguanas there.
  • This museum has some very cool archaeological findings and displays. I don't speak Spanish all that well and therefore had a hard time understanding most of the explanations. Some of them are also in English though which was nice. The entrance fee was $7 for both me and my wife. We also walked through the San Miguelito ruins as well. For the price it's a great way to spend a couple hours.

Where to stay in Cancun

Cancun's accommodations cater to everyone from spring-break partygoers to distinguished luxury seekers. By far the most densely developed area for hotels is the boomerang-shaped Punta Nizuc-Cancun and the connecting Bulevar Kukulcan, projecting out into the sea and offering prime beach access. Among the stylish resorts, you can find expansive party hostels offering large swimming pools. If you'd like a more independent Cancun vacation, consider staying at one of the private rentals scattered along the coast.
