Museo Maya de Cancun, Cancun

4.4
Wander around the modern Museo Maya de Cancun to absorb artifacts and displays relating to the Mayan culture. The museum makes a great place to begin if you’re planning to take excursions to some of the larger, better-known sites in the region. You’ll gain a broad overview of the Maya people, as well as the opportunity to purchase relevant books on the Maya and their culture. After examining the exhibits, be sure to visit the small but impressive ruins located in the gardens. • It’s remarkable Museum about Mayan people. Their vassal past in on the beautiful items that archaeologists excavated. Their lifestyle, cuisine understanding of universe, wars, economy and many more can be observed here. Should be first thing to do if you’re in Cancun or Yucatan Peninsula. I visited in an hour but there is an archeological site also called as St. Miguel’s. Definitely worth to look around. Don’t miss.
  • If you are interested in history this is a great vacation stop for you, as you will see many artifacts inside the museum which is on the higher level, and you will see a small village of ruins you can walk through outdoors. As others have noted, English translations are minimal and usually not present in the museum. If this is a problem you can use an app like Google Translate to get at least some idea of what the signs say. The app will use augmented reality and your phone camera to show you the English words in place of the Spanish words as you look at a sign through your phone.
  • Very informative. Not all displays have English but the key ones do. The excavation of the ruins next to the museum was in itself remarkable. Definitely worth the time to see.
  • If you like history (and I do), this is an inexpensive way to learn about the Mayan culture. Lots of exhibits - but mostly in Spanish so bring your translator app if your Spanish language skills are limited. Some interesting ruins but not on a grand or even large scale.
  • I'm not a big museum person, but this place is slightly interesting and can be visited in an hour or so. There's 3 exhibition rooms upstairs, and there's not really any order or structure to it. If you don't know Spanish, you'll just be looking at the items and reading summaries. The better part in my opinion is the ruins area, where you will see actual structures, and the pyramid at the end is worth it. I didn't go to Chichen Itza, so this was the closest I would get to an almost conserved structure.

Where to stay in Cancun

Cancun's accommodations cater to everyone from spring-break partygoers to distinguished luxury seekers. By far the most densely developed area for hotels is the boomerang-shaped Punta Nizuc-Cancun and the connecting Bulevar Kukulcan, projecting out into the sea and offering prime beach access. Among the stylish resorts, you can find expansive party hostels offering large swimming pools. If you'd like a more independent Cancun vacation, consider staying at one of the private rentals scattered along the coast.
