Puerta de Tierra, Campeche
Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Discover a piece of Mexican history by visiting Puerta de Tierra of Campeche City, the only walled city in Mexico. Built to protect the city from buccaneers and pirates in the 17th century, it originally featured 2,560 m (8,400 ft) of fortifications--of which only 500 m (1,640 ft) remain. Walk along the top of the wall, gaining access to views of the city from above. Along the way, you'll see eight bastions and two forts, including multiple museums providing insight into the history of the city. Excellent historic fort. You can walk along the ramparts and check out the views of the old town. The small museum area is all in spanish, but so is almost everything in Mexico. Well worth checking out if you are in the area and are interested even slightly in pirates.

Alejandra CáceresWonderful place historic in Campeche and a bulwark national. Here is where is crystallised great stories of pirates! You can not miss it; In addition, you can enjoy a walk by the people feeling the breeze and the salty scent of the sea!show original
Alejandro Moreno PenicheThe view from the top of the wall is worth much. But light show is not worth. The final projection comes to talk about the history of Campeche but is actually a totally colonial discirso, pure propaganda ;) I do not recommend them.show original
Mario CidBeautiful place! The representation historical is very cute. The missing production (surely lack support...) but miss you really wanted to!show original
