If you find yourself in the small town of Bacalar, stop by and admire Fuerte de San Felipe. The stone fortress dates from 1733, when it was constructed to protect the city from pirates and English colonizers. View the restored stone walls and old cannons of the fort, built in the shape of a four-pointed star. Visit the small museum inside, with informative plaques in English and Spanish, and learn about the history of the structure. From the fortress site, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the vibrant Bacalar lake. • Very good point for taking photographs. The entry charge, but not too much. Only accept cash. It is a little strong. Beware the intense sun, I recommend going to the evening a little.
