The stone fortress dates from 1733, when it was constructed to protect the city from pirates and English colonizers. View the restored stone walls and old cannons of the fort, built in the shape of a four-pointed star. Visit the small museum inside, with informative plaques in English and Spanish, and learn about the history of the structure. • The fortress which is also bordering Lake was built to protect the citizens from pirate raids and indigenous. The Mayan rebels took it in 1859 and retained it until Quintana Roo was cnquistada by Mexican troops in 1901. Today a museum where the story of Yucatán, through the Maya, the arrival of the Conqueror and the colonial centuries, independence and the war of the castes. Interesting.

  • It is a small place to go to learn a little of the history of bacalar. It is interesting to go to the Museum and the story has very good view

  • After the lagoon, is the monument to see (according to the guides of tourism). Tickets can be purchased in a small kiosk in front of the entrance. But once inside all panels are deleted, we know not what is each building or tower. Inside a little history and some objects. But a little abandoned as a museum.

  • Great view of the lagoon. The info inside is interesting but can be a bit tiring
  • What a view! You can actually see the change in color from on top
  • The view of the lagoon and the sunset / sunrise over here....is very nice. The building it self is very interesting to understand a little bit of the history over here.
