Cenote Santa Cruz, Akumal

4.5
#4 of 8 in Parks in Akumal
Head deep below the surface on a guided tour of Cenote Santa Cruz, a system of underground reservoirs in a limestone cave. Known as cenotes, the reservoirs of crystal clear water lie in underground limestone chambers, believed to be more than 50 million years old. Impressive rock formations and the clear, clean water create an otherworldly atmosphere as you explore the system. The tour will provide life jackets and waterproof flashlights, but make sure you bring comfortable clothing, shoes you don't mind getting wet, and your own snorkel. • This denote really is a sink hole. The water is under ancient rocks forming stalagmites. You are provided with safety gear and the guides are very caring.  more »
  • was in a trip included, otherwise would be not worth the long journey. Is a sulfur-containing Wuelle in a cave.

  • In a Yucatan peninsula you can find these formations everywhere, however to be able to enjoy them in a comfortable environment, natural without much intervention by man is quite strange. At rancho santa cruz I could enjoy every one of the roots of the trees, stalactites and stalagmites, fresh water, the jungle, and a great attention. We attended as Kings, explaining everything in detail. Very intimate and is a place to which would recommend to anyone visiting, adult children. explorers and reserved.

  • Our driver and JP picked us up directly from our beach house in Akumal and drove us about 15 minutes into the jungle on a very bumpy ride to the Cenote. JP was very knowledgeable and kept the tour through the Cenote moving at a perfect pace. We would stop on occasion to look around and swim. All in all, we spent almost 2 hours in the cave. It was beautiful and a lot of fun. Definitely would recommend.

  • SPECTACULAR Cenote in Akumal, you should go with the company see or with the sanctuary of the monkeys

  • We could not reach this cenote, not even the local residents knew him, the road was virtually impassable! Shame because on TripAdvisor talking about this well ...

Where to stay in Akumal

For comfortable beachfront options near the town itself, look to Half Moon Bay, whose curving coastline serves as the hub of diving and other beach activities in the region. Budget options can be difficult to find in Akumal and in the neighboring coastal towns--expect to pay the same, if not more, per night in the nearby town of Puerto Aventuras.
