  • The Temple of San Antonio is a monument and religious masterpiece, located in the historic centre of the city of Aguascalientes, in the State of the same name, designed and built by the practical architect Refugio Reyes Rivas self-taught. Its construction began in 1895 and the work concludes until the year 1908. The construction was commissioned by the Franciscan order, but it is currently guarded by the Augustinian order. The features that account in temple that makes it unique in Mexico are, according to experts, that has different architectural styles such as Gothic, neoclassical, Baroque style, Arabic style, Russian-style (this by the bulbous dome which possesses the largest tower), among many others. At the end of the year 2008, Temple and the adjoining streets to it suffered a major refurbishment by the anniversary number one hundred of its construction. The Temple of San Antonio for further reference, is located in the streets of Zaragoza and Pedro Parga. Its construction was started on October 22, 1895, and was blessed on December 8, 1908. This beautiful ecclesiastical monument is built in yellow, big bog, Aguascalientes from quarry. His style is eclectic with ornamental details and contrasts of order Corinthian and Doric. Also has a dome of double stained glass of great beauty, this work was designed and directed by the self-taught architect Refugio Reyes Rivas. It is considered by most as the most beautiful temple which has the city, boasts an amalgam of different architectural styles harmoniously embodied in Quarry located in the region, with shades of green, yellow, and rose. It has three towers, the central tower is circular of two bodies and topped with cupulìn with lantern, the other two towers are circular silver and a body only. In the back of the temple is beautifully double drum dome. The plant is Latin half sample columns with cross, walls quarry large medallions are key to face of angel, where are reflected images of the life of San Antonio. The pendentives, harmoniously decorated with geometric reliefs and small florets, are frescoes of the evangelists. Inside large works with the miracles of San Antonio, you can admire artworks painted by Candelario Rivas. In the back of the temple, is located the chapel dedicated to Saint Rita of Cascia and the Holy Sepulchre. Maestro Salvador Melchor Martínez was titular organist of the Temple of San Antonio from 1947 to 1996. Musician born in Aguascalientes, in the neighborhood of Guadalupe, from child his vocation and taste for music highlighted it in his studies of piano, which took place at the Academy of the Maestro. Arnulfo Miramontes. Subsequently he studied at the National Conservatory of music, he is recognized as one of the best Organists in Mexico, their stay and musical preparation are reminded in temples of the «tree», the Covadonga, San Agustin, the Cathedral Basilica of Guadalupe where he was fellow of the Julián Zúñiga, in addition to working for the XEW Radio organist. His musical repertoire stands out as an interpreter of the music file for organ by J.S. Bach, among other great masters of sacred music.
