  • Another beautiful cathedral. Aguascalientes is a simple town with a few awesome cathedrals. This is one of them. It's especially beautiful at night.  more »
  • Definitely a must see while in Aguas! It's especially beautiful at dusk when it's still a little light outside, but they have the spotlights lighting it up. :)  more »

  • Aguascalientes Cathedral, is dedicated to our Lady of the assumption. It is the main Catholic building in the city of Aguascalientes in Mexico, and one of the emblematic monuments of the city. It is located in the Plaza of the fatherland. The priest Antonio Flores de Acevedo began construction of the current Temple in 1704, ending the pastor Manuel Colón de Larreátegui in 1738. The image of the Virgen de la Asunción was brought from Spain. The construction consists of atrial wall composed of pillars of quarry and lattice with side access and to the North a sundial on a pillar. Twin towers showing a neoclassical style in their curved pediments. The main façade of the temple is entirely carved in pink quarry, which consists of three bodies and auction; the first access through an arch of half point meets Archangel key; sides Solomonic columns plant reliefs and composite capitals. In the lateral fronts is the cover of accesses with semicircular arch, flanked by smooth columns supporting entablature with broken pediment and florets at the sides. The original plant was Latin cross, with a nave and two cruisers; Subsequently the self-taught architect Refugio Reyes Rivas was expanded to three ships with intervention in the project. The style that predominates in the building is Baroque. The temple is made of pink quarry.
