Maheswarnath Temple, Triolet
(4.6/5 based on 30+ reviews on the web)
Founded in 1888, Maheswarnath Temple remains one of the oldest and largest Hindu shrines in Mauritius. According to local legend, a pot of gold and silver belonging to Indian pirates was buried on this site, providing the means for building the sacred structure. Painted white, the shrine features sculptures and floral designs made to provide a striking contrast to the white background. Walk inside the main temple to see representations of the presiding deity Lord Shiva, his wife, and sons. • It is a very peaceful place, full of positive energy. I fully recommend the tourist to visit and it is free.
  • A visit may be missed on a trip to Mauritius. For a small donation (approx. 50 rupees or what you want to...), you get a tour by a priest. The temple is the oldest on Mauritius and an important sanctuary of the Hindus. When entering the building the shoes must be removed as in every temple. Enjoy the peace and quiet and have come up with wishes to the gods!
