Maheswarnath Temple, Triolet

(4.6/5 based on 35 reviews on the web)
Founded in 1888, Maheswarnath Temple remains one of the oldest and largest Hindu shrines in Mauritius. According to local legend, a pot of gold and silver belonging to Indian pirates was buried on this site, providing the means for building the sacred structure. Painted white, the shrine features sculptures and floral designs made to provide a striking contrast to the white background. Walk inside the main temple to see representations of the presiding deity Lord Shiva, his wife, and sons.
