Grand Baie Beach, Riviere du Rempart

2.9/5 based on 45 reviews on the web
With the town's main street as its backdrop and a bay full of docked fishing boats, Grand Baie Beach makes for a scenic stroll. Along the way, you'll take in some classic elements of Mauritian culture: the food vendors, the fruit stands, and the locals playing cards and games of dominoes. At the end of the beach, near the fish market, check out the arrival of the day's catch. This well-maintained area has plenty of benches, or you can grab yourself a spot on the warm sand for a touch of sunbathing. The beach does feature a limited swimming area, but it's not the main attraction, as the moored boats dominate the water. • A newly developed tourist village. They seem quite proud of it on the Island but though pretty enough there are much nicer beaches around, even public ones.
  • Grand Baie is a gentle walk from Merville beach where we stayed, for a public beach it is very clean, with cafe's and restaurants, where you can sit and watch the beats and generally "people watch"
  • We have walked around one afternoon and walked through the bazaar. There is also a large shopping centre which is very useful can be!
