St Louis Cathedral, Port Louis

(4.4/5 based on 35+ reviews on the web)
One of the oldest churches in Mauritius, St Louis Cathedral serves as a quiet place of meditation. The present Roman Catholic cathedral was built in 1933, after frequent cyclones destroyed earlier edifices from the 18th and 19th centuries. The oldest part of the church is an 18th-century obelisk fountain with four lion heads on each side, located just opposite the entrance. The interior of the church features statues of saints and stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes. Rest and contemplate in the small garden area in front of the church. • Beautiful stone masonry, right in the middle of Port Louis. The front used to be a carpark, they have however paved the area and stoped vehicle access. The interior is very colourful with the vitrals,...  more »
  • I was first there to pay a visit. The church is majestic with its stone architecture. I later came back to attend the mass. I was upstairs and it's really another perspective! Realy worth it.
