  • Building from the Colonial Period now used for the government. Quite grand for the island and interesting architecture.
  • It is interesting to see this attractive and neat building in the chaos of the city. It is only from the outside. It is colonial style.

  • The building that houses the Government of Mauritius is located in Port Louis, not far from the port and with perspective as the place d'armes and its magnificent Royal Palm trees. The style is french colonial type and date of 1735 during the French occupation. The Governor at the time, François Mahé of the Bourdonnais, built this building and called the city Port Louis in honor of the King of France Louis XV. Then the statue of Queen Victoria is evidence of the change in status as a British colony. The building is a simple structure to 2-storey U-shaped with outdoor balconies with columns, which give the whole a very airy look.  A monumental statue of Queen Victoria, stands in front of the building, to remind the British from the 19 th century.
