Citadel, Port Louis

(3.4/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Do some upscale shopping and admire the views at Citadel, a former military base set in an impressive location. Built during 1834 and 1840 when the land was under British colonial rule, the fort sits atop a hill, well positioned to spot incoming attackers and fires in the city below. Now offering extensive views of the port town and coastline, the citadel has been refurbished to provide a range of boutique stores within its iconic blackened brick walls. If shopping in historical monuments isn't your thing, history buffs will enjoy the canons, positioned authentically, and the neatly restored walls. Before you head to Port Louis, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Port Louis travel itinerary planner, to make sure you see all that Port Louis has to offer, including Citadel.

  • A decent view point. But otherwise nothing spectacular about this place
  • Unfortunately the citadel already closes at 4 pm. Nevertheless we had quite a nice view over the City. If you go to Port Louis make a trip up here
  • No parking to speak of but spectacular views
  • Lovely view of city
  • Nice views of the capital, worth a look if around.
