Chateau De Labourdonnais, Mapou

4.5
#3 of 17 in Museums in Mauritius
Adventure into the history of Mauritius at Chateau De Labourdonnais, a restored mansion displaying an attractive neoclassical Italian style of architecture. Built in 1859, the house offers impressive grounds famous for their many species of orchids, a rum distillery still producing fine drinks by the bottle and glass, and a museum providing an overview of the island nation and the family that owned the property. Head to the tasting room and restaurant to sample the produce from the gardens and surrounding agricultural land, and watch the film about the recent restoration of the building in the onsite screening room. • A really wonderful vestige of old architecture. I would also recommend to do the tasting of the artisanal rhums, jams and fresh juices prepared there!
  • Amazing architecture and well preserved antique mansion. Lots of interracti e information so that you get to know about the history of the place. Adjacent to the mansion there is a giand garden with trees o er a hundred years old. There also a giant tortoise area. Very good restaurant to try there as well with souvenir area. Be sure go try the different fruit paste and juice organicly made and planted there.
  • Nice Chateau. Not much to see though, some old nicely maintained furniture, some old artifacts and letters. The place has one tortoise captivity , one Rum distillery and one nice restaurant. The restaurant in particular is good with nice Menu, the entry we bought ticket had rum tasting included we had a nice lunch with rum.
