Pointe d'Esny, Mahebourg

(4.6/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
For a bit of paradisal beach time, head to Pointe d'Esny, known by locals as one of the best bits of white sand beach and turquoise water on the island. Along with the nearby bay, this stretch is often referred to as Paradise Beach, which is no exaggeration. You can expect crowds, but the lush scenery of moutain peaks, swaying palms, and limpid water make the visit worthwhile. If relaxing at the beach isn't your thing, jump aboard a catamaran for a trip to the nature reserve on île aux Aigrette. Tours start from this beach. • We have been dazzled by the beauty of this place, much more beautiful that bluebay has my eyes. Go ahead, it's worth the detour.

  • It is quite easy to find access to the beach, small passage between the villas that are in front of the sea. It leads to a pretty beach where swimming is friendly, with in the background the island to egrets (Sanctuary which aims to restore the original biotope of Mauritius without dodos obviously). The only downside is that motor boats coming to the nearby resort along the beach at full speed, so difficult to venture to snorkeling without major risk to its survival. The coast guards local, interviewed on this subject have responded us: "no speed limit here".

  • Pointe d'esny is one of the most beautiful and tranquil residential areas in the South of the island, because here the sea is crystal clear, the beach is white and both local and foreign tourism is really very limited.
