Create an itinerary including Chinguetti Mosque
Dating from the 13th century, Chinguetti Mosque represents one of the world's oldest Muslim religious buildings. Pay special attention to its original square minaret, considered the second-oldest in the world, the split-stone masonry, and the lack of adornment--in accordance with the city founders' Malikite beliefs. Go inside and see the symmetrical structure, with four aisles and the mihrab traditionally pointing towards Mecca. Visit the peaceful courtyard, where you can enjoy the silence and soak in the atmosphere. • It's really a great place to visit, this mosque was built in the thirteenth century
  • The oldest mosque in Mauritania in the most spiritual city in the country. This mosque has a unique feeling, a unique sent and architecture you don’t find anywhere else. I was thrilled to see it, to enter it and to witness a sunset beside it. I would definitely come back, hopefully for a longer period.
  • Jama Mosque at Chinguetti, Mauritania, built in13th-14th century is an historical mosque. The mosque is in continuous use since then. It is a very remarkable thing.
