Diamond Rock, Le Diamant

4.4
#1 of 8 in Nature in Arrondissement of Le Marin
Giving off a reflection that resembles the precious mineral, Diamond Rock reaches 175 m high (574 ft) above the Caribbean Sea. The basalt rock, which forms a spectacular island rising up against the blue background, is uninhabited and can only be accessed by boat. You can scuba dive around the rock and discover a deep triangular cave secreting healthy sea fans and coral formations. Because the island remains difficult to access, it has acted as a sanctuary for animals that were once considered extinct. • From the road you will be surprised by the beauty of this rock in the middle of the sea. We have to stop to watch the view. However very disappointed by the beach which is huge and very rough sea (deemed dangerous by the way). It was a Sunday, and there were many people who ran or walked along the beach. I even stopped at a restaurant to drink a fruit juice. Nearby are two small shops and a covered market.

  • Where you are on the South coast, the diamond rock is apparent. There are explanatory signs on the main island just in front.

  • In 1803 Diamond rock was commissioned into the British Royal Navy as HMS Diamond. Great story, look it up!
  • Yea Baby!
  • Very nice view on the road between the diamond and Cove of Arlet! Ornithological reserve and therefore prohibited access can nevertheless be approached by boat! The rock is a volcanic formation of millions of years!

  • A superb spot from the sea in approach with the boat. Fugitive slaves found refuge. Impressive, considering the height of the walls!

  • The diamond rock is a small uninhabited island located in the Caribbean Sea southwest of Martinique, about two kilometres from the tip of the diamond, in the Saint Lucia channel. The island takes its name from General, pointed and angled, shape as well as the reflection of its walls at certain times of the day, referring to those of a gemstone. He gave his name to the city which faces it on the side.
