Chateau Dubuc, La Trinite

3.9
#3 of 6 in Things to do in La Trinite
Admire the remains of Chateau Dubuc, a former sugar plantation with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. Erected in 1721, the chateau fell into disrepair in 1815, having survived earthquakes, cyclones, and looting by British troops. Upon entry, you'll be given a self-guided audio tour (available in both English and French), allowing you to explore the 18th-century ruins at your own pace. Wonder through the spacious grounds, or follow the trail down to the beach to enjoy the cooling sea breeze. Some of the path can be strenuous and hilly, so wear good walking shoes and pack plenty of water and sunscreen. • Interesting tour but it's hard to visualize what truly represented this huge estate. The audio guide provides good explanations and the presence of a Mini-Museum complete history of this old distillery.

  • The site is easy to access, even if it is necessary to walk a little and the ride in the ruins imposed do not have problem to climb / descend of the railways. The ruins are rather well exploited, and the audio guide is very long-winded explanation. Many details of the life and the use of the different buildings on the site. A bit long sometimes. On the other hand, predict what to cover, and sunscreen, because the site only offers little shade.
