Chateau Dubuc, La Trinite

3.7
#2 of 8 in Things to do in La Trinite
Admire the remains of Chateau Dubuc, a former sugar plantation with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. Erected in 1721, the chateau fell into disrepair in 1815, having survived earthquakes, cyclones, and looting by British troops. Upon entry, you'll be given a self-guided audio tour (available in both English and French), allowing you to explore the 18th-century ruins at your own pace. Wonder through the spacious grounds, or follow the trail down to the beach to enjoy the cooling sea breeze. Some of the path can be strenuous and hilly, so wear good walking shoes and pack plenty of water and sunscreen. • Visited the Château Dubuc after the full course of the Caravelle. Suffice to say that we were not really "cool" and yet we enjoyed. The 'Castle' is in fact an old sugar house completely in ruins but the audio guide and the plan do us perfectly imagine what looked like this area in the 18th century. The Caravelle peninsula is to be seen as a whole.

  • An unexpected pleasure first I am always surprised at the negative comments of people uninformed on a place that enjoys of much advertising! It is true that this is not a true Castle, but it has been the equivalent of one at a time. I had read some bad reviews before and this is only my fourth year of holiday in Martinique we have dared to go. Even if we were prepared a doubt remained, and I must tell you that we were pleasantly surprised. It is true that there is a little bit of rough road and that after parking a 5 minutes of walking in a way rather abrupt but ago this road remains open for disabled people and groups. These ruins of a castle Martinique were fairly well appointed, and allow us to understand a piece of history of this part of the island. The staff at the reception was very friendly and we were well informed about the visit. The pencil guide with map is interesting but the record contains too many details that eventually lose us. I wish I had a better defined trail because it is not always easy to meet. Should be considered to simplify the description of the various sites left to distribute a leaflet for people interested in more details. The site is clean with remarkable views. Stayed here for a 1 h 30 we don't regret. Recommended for people interested in history. Is not recommended in times of heat and for people with reduced mobility

  • CHÂTEAU DUBUC. Trinity. Long way to get there: at the end of the Caravelle peninsula. After the parking lot another 400 m walk away with slope. You will have a plan, without North, for the tour, with numbers that you should find on ground. Mission almost impossible... they are so small. Ruins with strong inclination of the ground. Disappointing.

  • This was a great tour and location. The audio guide adds a lot to the understanding of the place and time. Important in understanding the slave and sugar connection.
  • Well documented view into the plantation era in Martinique. Beautiful site, short but hilly hike in from the parking area.
  • Nice, but not much to see for five Euros.
  • Its very interesting
  • Great place to visit and see a little history of the island from the 1600s
