La Savane, Fort-de-France
(3.2/5 based on 140 reviews on the web)
A common meeting place among locals, La Savane, once known as the Garden of the King, dates back to the 19th Century. The 12.5 acre (5.05 ha) park offers shade, tall trees, park benches, and walkways. Head to the center of the park to find the decapitated statue of Josephine de Beauharnais, Napoleon's first wife and Empress of France. She convinced her husband to reinstate slavery in the area following the revolution that abolished it. In her left hand she holds a locket featuring a portrait of Napoleon. • Park area is a bit run down and the statue of Josephine has been vandalised but the night time street food stalls are high quality but pretty expensive.
  • We discovered the La Savane Park, to hide nothing, I expected more!... It's a shame because there are potential. The Park is poorly maintained, it ' is not shadow the trail to the bottom of the Park is really bad. I'm sorry that such a park in the city center is not highlighted. He really deserves it. Fortunately nearby is a walk SIP small cabins for eating and drinking local beer!

  • The walk is very nice, we ate very well local on the esplanade, but there are still "rival"tapes lying around. Officials of the small restaurant are respect but the police does not move while cameras are there.

  • Superb! The space is well laid out and conducive to the activities, the French beach is accessible for a swim at the feet of the Fort St. Louis.

  • As its name suggests it is a fairly arid Park, little vegetation, mainly a big and beautiful lawn that gives a little hindsight on the city, the fort and the port. Also unforgettable No...
