Montagne Pelee, Arrondissement of Saint-Pierre

(4.5/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Cleverly disguised as a mountain, Montagne Pelee is a semi-active volcano famously responsible for the destruction of St Pierre in 1902. A rich display of lush green vegetation greets you as you walk around the volcano. Take a rewarding hike to the top, which presents breathtaking panoramic views of pristine surroundings from 1,397 m (4,583 ft) above sea level. As you hike up the volcano, keep an eye out for the Martinique volcano frog, which is endemic to this area.
