Montagne Pelee, Arrondissement of Saint-Pierre

4.2
#3 of 16 in Nature in Martinique
Cleverly disguised as a mountain, Montagne Pelee is a semi-active volcano famously responsible for the destruction of St Pierre in 1902. A rich display of lush green vegetation greets you as you walk around the volcano. Take a rewarding hike to the top, which presents breathtaking panoramic views of pristine surroundings from 1,397 m (4,583 ft) above sea level. As you hike up the volcano, keep an eye out for the Martinique volcano frog, which is endemic to this area. • Choose a day with a clear sky for this hike. In wet weather or when it is overcast it is not advised: you may slip or absolutely nothing. The climb is sports, difficult level and quite long. It takes at least 2 hours to reach 2nd refuge. Uphill take time to admire the view, you are on the roof of the island! Good shoes, a little vest and a bottle of water and you're ready! Arm you perseverance and roof will be fine. You can say that you did ⛰

  • September 2018, 9 in the morning, we start the ascent of Mount Pelée. Under the Sun, the landscapes are beautiful, the domes are cleared, not a cloud. Ascension is pretty rough, the stairs are very high, the path is Rocky, I would say more a survey line traced and dug by the water flows down from the mountain. Tips before venture you: have good shoes, what to drink, clothes, do not go alone. K way. From the early morning to avoid heat, and enjoy the scenery. And the ride will be nice!
