Specialty Museum Museum
Ta' Kola Windmill, Il-Mitħna ta' Kola, is a windmill in the village of Xagħra, on the island of Gozo in the Maltese archipelago. It was built in 1725 by the Fondazione Vilhena of Grand Master Manoel de Vilhena, and was rebuilt in the 1780s. It became a museum in 1992.Like many other Maltese windmills, it has a round central tower surrounded by a number of rooms. The sails and milling machinery have been restored, as have the miller's living-quarters. The museum also contains a large collection of traditional tools, mostly for wood- and iron-working.

  • As entry to the windmill comes free with a ticket to Ggantja Temple, it seemed foolish not to pop in. The museum is small, because it is inside the windmill. There is a good display of old tools, bits...  more »

  • Got to visit this well-preserved Windmill for free, as the ticket was complimentary with the tickets to Ggantija Temples. The windmill offers insight on the life of those who worked there. One can see the living quarters, and the tools workers used to use. A steep, winding staircase takes you to the very top, where one can see the wheat grinder.
  • Very interesting, enjoyed seeing the living rooms and climbing spiral staircase to see the grinding mechanism. Lovely and cool on a hot day. Wouldn't care to visit when busy in season.
  • Nice meseum. Unfortunately this mill is not operational. However it's living quarters are much more spacious than the ones in Kinderdijk. 5€ entrance fee or free if you buy a ticket to Ggantija temples (9€).
  • Nice exhibition about life around the mill. Friendly staff.
  • This is a 'must go location' if you are in the Xaghra area in Gozo! The Windmill is an excellent subject for any photographer.
