The Citadel, Victoria
Categories: Ruins, Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Make the climb to the top of Gozo's first fortifications, The Citadel, and take in expansive views of the island and beyond. The walls date back to the Bronze Age, around 1,500 BCE, and since then have been subject to multiple sieges. Walk the full circuit of the ramparts for viewpoints overlooking the island's open countryside and Victoria, Malta, across the water. Several other attractions are housed within, including the Archaeology Museum, the Folklore Museum, the Natural Science Museum, the Old Prisons, and the Gozo Cathederal. Admission to all of these are included with the purchase of a multi-site ticket. Be aware that while the walk is short, it is a steep climb up to the top.
