Saluting Battery, Valletta

(4.4/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Witness one of the country's most famous traditions at Saluting Battery. For centuries, the battery overlooking the Grand Harbor served as the first line of defense against invaders. Salutes were fired to mark important occasions and holidays, and to welcome foreign dignitaries. Additionally, at exactly noon each day, a shot was fired so captains could calibrate their ship chronographs. The tradition of a noon shot still continues and today is joined with a shot in the evening. Tour the battery, see the preserved cannons, and attend the salute ceremony. Multilingual audio tours are available, as are guided tours in English. You can also book an exclusive after-hours tour via e-mail. • The noon time show offers a ton of history and an amazing view. The big bang is fun and the crowds reaction is also fun.
  • I don't know if you encounter everyday, but when I went there I was at 12.00 and then at 16.00. Firing blanks and can be seen for free from the terrace or with 3 or 4 euros you can get off and see up close the "greeting" ... Touristy, but very nice and fun and you can take great pictures with green meadow, the guns, the blue sea and the officers in their beautiful uniforms. Recommended.

  • 2 times a day, the canon marks the hours. The entrance includes a visit of some cells where you can see how gunpowder was stored and other things related to gun firing. A nice view of the harbour to top it all.
  • This gun fires every day at noon - a really interesting historic experience.
  • Great spot with a pretty view of the Grand Harbor. May have the most grass of anywhere in the country!
  • Amazing view and great spot , the cannon is fired at 12.00 -4.00pm.
  • Lovely peaceful spot with stunning views.
