  • These gardens are reachable quickly and easily if you enter from Valletta City Gate: simply climb the stairs you come across on the left just inside the door. Less famous than the Upper Barrakka Gardens, partly because the panorama to the North, the Marsamxett Harbour is definitely less spectacular than the Grand Harbour and the 3 cities enjoying themselves on the South side, by the mentioned Upper Barrakka gardens. This means that these gardens are rarely visited by tourists, so are quieter and more suitable to be used as real gardens. In fact the Barrakka Gardens (Upper and Lower) are more like observatories, as these, besides being much larger, are classical gardens, which are suitable for quiet walks or stops in the shadow of the summer heat. In any case, then, from these gardens located anyway close to the ramparts, you can still admire the pleasant views, in particular on Sliema. Finally, after leaving the North West access, you have a nice view (and perhaps only in the city of Valletta) on the 2 most characteristic elements of the city skyline (the cupolona of the Carmelite Church and the Bell Tower of St. Paul's Anglican church pointy) who from Barrakka Gardens are hardly visible.

  • The worse out of the three gardens is Hastings. It is good to take a look and walk around for a few minutes but it is obvious that not a lot of effort have been put on these gardens.  more »
