St Paul's Catacombs, Rabat

Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web
Explore the complex of interconnected underground Roman cemeteries, in use up to the 4th century CE, at St Paul's Catacombs. The earliest archaeological evidence of Christianity in Malta, the catacombs display various tomb types, like the baldacchino tombs, which are free-standing, canopied burials with grand arches and pillars. Other decorations within the catacombs include illustrations and written messages. Be advised that the catacombs are very dark, with steep stairs and uneven flooring. They may be difficult to manage for those with mobility issues or claustrophobia. • Great experience and really interesting. There are a few places which are a little tight to claustrophobic people may not like some aspects, but for the really narrow areas, there were often wider alternate routes. Highly recommend.
  • Loads to see, needs a good half a day to fully appreciate everything.
  • Way more impressive than expected; gives an insight into the island's early Christian, Jewish and Pagan history.
  • Awesome, outstanding, fascinating.
  • Spooky. Would recommend.
