Mellieha Air Raid Shelter, Mellieha
Categories: Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Experience what life was like during World War II at Mellieha Air Raid Shelter. Veterans of previous sieges, the Malta islanders manned their defenses during the Axis air raids. To protect the lives of civilians, an intricate system of underground tunnels and rooms was carved into limestone. These shelters are now open to the public. You can see artifacts from the period, such as bullets and gas masks. Guides will provide historical information as you explore. With tiny rooms and narrow corridors, the atmosphere civilians experienced during the raids is preserved for visitors, but it might be uncomfortable for those who are claustrophobic. Put Mellieha Air Raid Shelter and other Mellieha attractions into our Mellieha itinerary builder, and watch your holiday take shape.
